Athena has lied to us

A long couple of days on the master cylinders. Not photogenic, not heroic, and finally finished.

A long couple of days.

If you have been watching the tracker, you will know TS2 didn’t come home last night. The master cylinder rebuild turned out to be rather more of a pain than I had allowed for. These things take time. Fixing a car reveals a cascade of other things that need examination, and every one of them takes longer than you think.

It doesn’t make great content.

Athena has lied to us. It is not rugged brutes wielding heroic breaker bars like long swords, artistically oiled arms slathered in artisan grime.

It’s sitting quietly on a wall, washing petrol through gunk with a toothbrush until the part is clean. It’s reaching for the wrong spanner every time. Dropping the nut. Losing the funnel.

It isn’t visual. It isn’t picturesque. It’s cracked fingers, filthy nails, setbacks and slow, stubborn progress. It’s the erosion of the human spirit set against the painstaking reassembly of a car. A battle between frustration and perseverance, the temptation to walk away and the ability to carry on. Because sometimes progress is almost invisible. Sometimes you work for two days to move a couple of thous. But you hold out. You keep going. And, piece by piece, what once seemed broken begins to come back to life.

We won, and I will be eternally grateful for the help and counsel of a very good friend.

TS2 is back on the drive at home.

More on all of this when my hands are clean.
